Bengaluru - August 30, 2022: Ahead of the upcoming festive season and the Big Billion Days, Flipkart announced the strengthening of its Kirana delivery program with the onboarding of an additional one lakh kiranas in the last year, taking the total partner count to over two lakh across the country.

This expansion will enable customers across the country, including metros, tier-2 and tier-3 cities, and even rural India, to get their products delivered and fulfill their festive requirements. It also serves as an additional source of income for kirana partners.

Program Scale and Growth

Flipkart's Kirana delivery program has seen massive acceptance, with more and more Kirana stores expressing interest to join.

Top Onboarding States: States that witnessed the highest onboarding of kiranas include West Bengal (27,000+), Bihar (23,000+), Uttar Pradesh (20,000+), Maharashtra (17,000+) and Tamil Nadu (14,000+). Other states, including Puducherry and Jammu & Kashmir, also saw increased onboarding.

Northeast Growth: The Northeastern states witnessed a significant jump in participation with nearly 15,000 partner stores across Tripura, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh coming onboard, marking a 5X growth from 2020.

Delivery Contribution: Today, of the 100 million deliveries a month, Kiranas deliver over 30% of these shipments across the country.

Historical Growth: Having started with 27,000 kirana partners in 2019, the program has been consistently doubling its onboarding count year-on-year—50,000 partners in 2020 to 1 lakh in 2021 and over 2 lakh this year.

Partner Incentives and Training

This year, Flipkart introduced additional incentives for kirana partners, which include:

Guaranteed payment & bonuses.

Referral incentives.

Other benefits, including a personal accident policy of Rs 5 lakhs.

The festive season offers kirana partners the opportunity to augment their income and earn significantly higher with increased shipment deliveries. The program is also attracting thousands of women, mostly from smaller cities, enabling them to fund their studies, manage personal priorities, and earn a livelihood.

The company has established a digital registration process for faster onboarding. The process includes:

Submitting an online application along with necessary documents.

After verification, selected kiranas are inducted and trained in the nuances of delivery and customer management.

Training also covers the use of app-based dashboards and digital payments.

Hemant Badri, Senior Vice-President, Supply Chain at the Flipkart Group, said the program enables Flipkart to seamlessly fulfill customers' evolving requirements during the upcoming annual festive extravaganza, the Big Billion Days. He also noted that the program expansion across the country has enabled them to offer delivery for multiple products, including high value items such as mobile phones and electronics.
